The Bolzano arcades are the heart of the pulsating centre of the capital of South Tyrol. Once the trade routes interlinked here, and therefore a trading centre developed in this place. In the long houses with their atriums were storage facilities and shops, money changers, wine cellars and workshops. The upper floors also contained apartments. The Northern row of houses was reserved for the traders from the South, the Southern row for traders from the North. The arches, as the arcades used to be called, were built to protect the goods.

Today, shops with interesting products still line the arcades, which are renowned as an attractive shopping centre
