'Vino in festa' 2010

One month - from 13th May to 12th June 2010 - the 15 wine growing districts on the South Tyrolean Wine Road will become the setting for 'Vino in festa'.

The picturesque South Tyrolean Wine Road features famous wine villages with extensive vineyards, gentle slopes and valleys and inviting country inns. Here, besides encountering locally and internationally famous wines, you will make culinary and cultural discoveries, receive a warm welcome and witness a wine farming tradition that is alive and well with an added touch of Mediterranean 'joie de vivre'.



From breakfast with sparkling wine to the Wine Cellar Night, a variety of interesting events will be staged featuring numerous treats and highlights for wine enthusiasts everywhere. The grand finale will be on 12th June, when over 30 wine cellars get together to open their doors for Wine Cellar Night.

88th Bozen Wine Tasting

13th to 15th May I Bozen | 13th May I Opening of the Bozen Wine Tasting event as well as the South Tyrolean Wine Road Weeks
Everyone is wondering how the Bozen Wine Tasting evening will be presented this year. Traditionally the most important South Tyrolean Wine Tasting event, the 2010 event will bring together some of best wine and connoisseurs from South Tyrolean wine producers: quality wines from 2009 and Riserva from 2007 can be tasted at this event. The Bozen Wine Tasting event, together with the South Tyrolean Wine Road Weeks, will be officially opened on Thursday, 13th May. As always, the wine party with wine, music and entertainment will be a special highlight.

White wine & music at the village well

16th May | 10.30 a.m. | Kurtatsch village centre | If the weather is bad: at Ansitz Freienfeld
1 p.m.: guided wine hiking trip through Kurtatsch'vineyards
Usually, a glass of wine in the morning should be accompanied by a typical Bavarian white sausage and wheat beer. However, the fresh, fruity, lively and temperamental white wines from the airy slopes around Kurtatsch are also excellently suited. The local farming youth will do their best to convince you anyway. The farmer's wives from Kurtatsch will offer you suitable specialities to accompany every wine they present. We invite you to come and enjoy the tasting event, discuss as much as you want about wine … or simply relax and enjoy the fun.

South Tyrolean Pinot Noir days

20th and 21st May | from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. | Neumarkt and Montan
The famous South Tyrolean Pinot Noir days are the only one of its kind in Italy, pays homage to the 'king of red wine' against the setting of the Pinot Noir villages of Neumarkt and Montan. This noble vine has been cultivated here with great success since the mid 19th century. An international jury will select the Pinot Noirs taking part.

Wine Handcrafts in Margreid

22nd May | bad weather: 23rd May | 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. | Handcraftsshow until 6 p.m. | Margreid
At the St.-Gertaud-Platz with its historic buildings, you will discover true craftsmanship and be able to enjoy some Margreid wines. Guided cellar tours and tasting events will teach you about the local wine cultivation, while you enjoy some regional specialities. A horse-drawn coach will carry you through the picturesque village lanes to the surrounding vineyards. During the village tour, you can learn about the century-old history of aristocratic palaces and Margreid's agricultural buildings. Our little guests will the chance to have fun in the drawing and crafts shop at the 'Angerle'.

Terlan Urbans Night

25th of May | from 7.30 p.m. | Terlan
Saint Urban is the patron of wine in the German speaking area. He is celebrated on the 25th of May. Due to this occasion a prayer for good weather and the blessing of the wineries takes place in the chapel of the 'Köstenholz' residence at 6 p.m.. Afterwards, the wineries of Terlan and Siebeneich serve their precious wines and some culinary delights – be it sunny or rainy.

Wine & pleasure behind historic walls

28th of May | from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. | Aichberg, Paschbach and Tschindlhof, Eppan
Stroll past historic walls, meet friends, enjoy some wines, get in contact with wine producers, visit residences and castles in Überetsch: all this and more awaits you on a special wine mall, which can be easily reached with a shuttle bus. The Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Eppan will spoil you with culinary specialities.

Sparkling wine breakfast at Haderburg Castle

29th of May | from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. | Salurn
Enjoy a glass of 'Haderburg Brut' sparkling wine from the Haderburg Alois Ochsenreiter sparkling wine producer, salmon sandwiches and good music by the 'Salurner Böhmische'. Experience the medieval ambience at Haderburg Castle on a special Saturday morning. Haderburg Castle can be easily reached via a beautiful hiking path. A car park can be found at the festival site in Trient Street.

Tramin & Lazio

29th May | from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. | Castle Rechtenthal, Tramin
Aleatico di Gradoli, Est! Est! Est! Di Montefiascone, Frascati – These are three great wines, representing numerous offerings, which can be tasted and compared to local wines. It will all happen at Castle Schloss Rechtenthal in the presence of wine producers from Tramin and the Lazio region. On the hills of the Castelli romani in the Lazio region, just as in South Tyrol, they predominantly grow white wines. The Tramin wines can be compared to these – an exciting and true challenge. In addition, enjoy some finger-food specialities from Tramin and the Lazio.

WineSENSE in Andrian

A special wine tasting event awaits you at the village centre or if it rains in the cellars of Kellerei Andrian. In the dark, you will not be able to see the wines and therefore, you must totally rely on your taste buds. You will discover how many taste nuances wine can produce in your pallet.

Lagrein and the changing times

3rd June | from 7 p.m. | Heinrich-Lona-Platz, Auer
Auer is a typical cultivation area for the autochthon Lagrein grape. This event will give you extensive information about this full-bodied red wine, its origin, distribution and style. While tasting different kinds of Lagrein from a number of wine cellars, you will get a very balanced insight into this wine. The hotelier and restaurant association of Auer is pleased to dish up some gastronomic specialities.

Wine tasting in 'Little Venice'

4th of June | from 8.30 p.m. | Village square Kurtinig
What do the town of Kurtinig and Venice have in common? In ancient times, before the construction of embankment dams, the Etsch River used to flood Kurtinig on a regular basis. This is why the beautiful town was called 'Little Venice'. Enjoy local wines in the wine village near the language border. Also South Tyrolean specialities and music are of course not missing.

Wine towns in Italy: Meeting in the historic centre in Spring

Wine seminar at Castle Maretsch, Bozen
Bozen is the third-largest wine cultivation town in South Tyrol and is host to the Italian Wine Town Meeting in Spring. The wine town of Bozen and other Italian wine towns will present and sell their wines in the city centre of Bozen. In parallel at Castle Maretsch, a seminar will be organised for wine connoisseurs with an emphasis on wine cultivation, production and marketing.

2nd South Tyrolean Enjoyment Theatre – A sensual experience

5th June | 7.30 p.m. | Kaltern
It's time! On the initiative of wein.kaltern, the South Tyrolean Enjoyment Theatre will take place for a second time. Star chef Roland Trettl and his team from the Hangar 7 restaurant in Salzburg will spoil you rotten, by creating a combination of culinary delights and top wines from Kaltern. The main actors at the Enjoyment Theatres are the wine, as well as the culinary delights. The backdrop an enchanting ambience and second to none live music. A truly sensual experience.

Chatting about wine – Seminar and guided tour

9th June | 2.30 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. | Laimburg and Ölleiten, Kaltern
This seminar will give you insight into the world of wine tasting. You will learn basics, professional expressions and enjoy many possibilities to assess the wines. At the wine tasting, you will be able to put your freshly gained knowledge into practice. The seminar takes place from 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. From 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., you can enjoy an informative guided tour through the vineyard. Dr. Barbara Raifer will answer all your questions.

Wine Cellar Night

on 12th June 2010 | until 0 p.m.
Over 30 famous, well-known and popular wine cellars on the South Tyrolean Wine Road are opening their doors for wine enthusiasts, experts, connoisseurs and those with an adventurous attitude to wine. This is a unique opportunity to get to know the various deep wine cellars and their contents on the same night.
In addition – a varied entertainment programme will make this extensive wine cellar tour an engaging wine experience. A shuttle bus will ensure comfortable and easy transport from cellar to cellar.
