Bozen. Knowledge

Despite its low population figure of only around 100.000 people, Bozen is an incredibly urban town.  It's a cultural meeting point and an important shopping centre for the surrounding area. The historic centre with the Walther-square and the picturesque porticos is separated by the river Talfer from the 'new' part of the town. The Freiheitsstraße -Corso Libertà begins right behind the victory monument, the true heart of Bozen and its Italian population (about 75% of all inhabitants).
In the evening, the Rosengarten, another landmark in the town, glows above the city. You will get the best view from the other side of the river.

Bozen. Our tips

The best ice-cream:  Gelateria Avalon. One of the five best ice-cream shops in Italy. Paolo Coletto is an expert at his job and only uses fruits in season (strawberries, apricots and berries from the Vinschgau region) – if possible biological! Freiheitsstr. 44, near the Mazzini square

The most beautiful market square.  Every day is market day on the Obstmarkt: fresh fruit, vegetables from the farming community, local cheeses, meats and speck, as well as cereals and, lately, also Bozen bread.

The coolest coffee shop: Lounge Exil Cafe.  High-quality products, such as a variety of whiskeys, international teas and coffees. All types of guests and ages relax at the Exil: they talk, listen to alternative music or read one of the world's newspapers. Opening times: from 10 a.m., Sundays closed. Kornplatz

The best coffee shop: Bar Sernesi.  Looking at it from the outside or, in fact, inside, this bar is not very outstanding, but it serves the best coffee in town.  Sundays closed, Sernesi-Straße 28

Bozen. Wine & Beer

Il Baccaro.  This small and original wine bar is found in the courtyard of an old building in the historic centre of town. Apart from a variety of open bottle wines, the host also serves bread rolls and snacks. Sundays closed, Silbergasse 17

Enovit.  Wine bar in stylish renovated and furnished vaults. Also distillates, accessories, olive oil, Dr.-Streiter-Gasse 30

Fischbänke, Doctor Streiter's Winegarden.  Surely, this must be the most unique pub in Bozen. It is near the marble tables of the former fish market booths. There is no roof apart from sun umbrellas.  For this reason, Cobo (survivor, artist and gastronomy expert) opens only from mid April to mid October. Saturday evening and Sundays closed, Dr.-Streiter-Gasse 28

Hopfen & Co.  The fresh Bozen beer comes directly from the cellars (unfiltered) to your glass. A real experience, Obstplatz 17
